AUDITIONS

For CURRENT MEMBERS wishing to move up, auditions will take place on Monday, September 11 at True North Church beginning at 4:00 pm. To reserve an audition time, click on this link and fill your name in the earliest available slot that you can reasonably make. 

 

For NEW STUDENTS interested in joining, auditions will take place on Monday, September 18 at True North Church beginning at 4:00 pm. To reserve an audition time, click on this link and fill your name in the earliest available slot that you can reasonably make. 

 

Audition requirements for each ensemble are listed below.

PHILHARMONIC AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

**Auditions will consist of playing required scales/rudiments, prepared solo of your choice and sight-reading**

Winds & Strings

  • 2 octave scales: Concert F Major & arpeggio, Ab Major scale & arpeggio, G melodic minor scale- up and down
     

All Musicians

  • A 2-minute solo of your choice demonstrating your highest level of polish and musicianship.  (Percussion will prepare either a snare or mallet solo). Please bring a copy of your solo for the conductors.
     

  • Sight-reading at the discretion of the conductor

INTERMEZZO AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

**Auditions will consist of playing required scales, prepared solo of your choice and sight-reading**

Scales:
There are two required scales to learn for each instrument. Scale sheets are provided for your use on the link below.

 

Prepared piece of your choice: 

This can be a solo or etude you have worked on by yourself or with a teacher. This should not be a piece from your orchestra class at school. It should be a solo or etude.

Sight-reading: 

Sight reading is a musical skill that involves playing something new for the first time. We use this to measure your music-reading ability. (Music to be chosen by conductor.)

DEBUT AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

**Auditions will consist of playing required scales, prepared solo of your choice and sight-reading**
