Audition requirements for each ensemble are listed below.
PHILHARMONIC AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
We are setting two different audition templates for this year, given that many are returning, and some are brand new. Please make sure you are looking at your appropriate material.

New students (String, returning brass, woodwind) :
-
2-3 octave scale, quarter note=82, separate bows.
-
A solo of your choice. If you haven’t learned a solo through private lessons or preparation for Solo and Ensemble, a recent selection from orchestra music will be great.
-
There will be sight reading—this is mostly for me to get an idea of what we might be able to tackle during the season. If you want a sneak preview, look at Beethoven 7th Symphony 2nd movement.
Returning students strings:
Focus on scales, excerpts from Beethoven 7, and sight reading.

INTERMEZZO AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
**Auditions will consist of playing required scales, prepared solo of your choice and sight-reading**

Scales:
There are two required scales to learn for each instrument.

Prepared piece of your choice:
This can be a solo or etude you have worked on by yourself or with a teacher. This should not be a piece from your orchestra class at school. It should be a solo or etude.

Sight-reading:
Sight reading is a musical skill that involves playing something new for the first time. We use this to measure your music-reading ability. (Music to be chosen by conductor.)
