AUDITIONS

For new members or students wishing to move up, auditions will take place on Monday, September 19 at True North Church beginning at 4:00pm. The audition requirements for each ensemble are listed below.

 

To reserve an audition time, click on this google doc and fill your name in the earliest available slot that you can reasonably make.

Xylophone

PHILHARMONIC AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

**Auditions will consist of playing required scales/rudiments, prepared solo of your choice and sight-reading**

Winds & Strings

  • 2 octave scales: Concert F major & arpeggio, Ab major scale & arpeggio, G melodic minor scale- up and down

All Musicians

  • A 2-minute solo of your choice demonstrating your highest level of polish and musicianship.  (Percussion will prepare either a snare or mallet solo). Please bring a copy of your solo for the judges.

  • Sight-reading at the discretion of the judge

Violin Trio

INTERMEZZO AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

**Auditions will consist of playing required scales, prepared solo of your choice and sight-reading**

STRINGS
Violin:
D Major 2-octave
G melodic minor 2-octave

Viola:
G Major 2-octave
C melodic minor 2-octave

Cello:
A Major 2-octave
G melodic minor 2-octave

Bass:
G Major 1-octave
A minor 1-octave

DEBUT AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

**Auditions will consist of playing required scales, prepared solo of your choice and sight-reading**

Violin:
C Major (1-octave)
G Major (2-octave)

Viola:
F Major (1-octave)

Cello:
F Major (1-octave)
C Major (2-octave)

Bass:

Prepared piece of your choice: 

This can be a solo or etude you have worked on by yourself or with a teacher. Select music that shows how amazing you are!

Sight-reading: 

Sight reading is a musical skill that involves playing something new for the first time. We use this to measure your music-reading ability. Not so scary.  (Music to be chosen by conductor.)
